Hi Jewellery Lovers

Valentine's Day - February 14th

Valentine's Day is the traditional day on which people express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards and presenting gifts - often jewellery !

There are many other  traditions and superstitions associated with romance activities on Valentine's day including:

  • the first man an unmarried woman saw on 14th February would be her future husband;
  • if the names of all a girl's suitors were written on paper and wrapped in clay and the clay put into water, the piece that rose to the surface first would contain the name of her husband-to-be.
  • if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine’s Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a rich person.
  • In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week.
  • In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!"

Here at C J Vinten we have many 'Valentine' inspired items of jewellery both in silver and gold, a selection of which can be found within the gallery pages.

Christmas 2011 Show

Christmas 2011 was kicked off at C J Vinten Goldsmiths with our annual Christmas Preview Show held at the end of November.    Around 200 valued customers attended the Show and enjoyed wine, canapes and most importantly, a 10% discount on purchased items!

The theme was 'Recycling' and every attending guest had their personal invite entered into a Prize Draw with a chance to win their own Initial, hand made into a pendant and set with small diamonds - recycled from previously enjoyed jewellery.  An example 'D' pendant was especially made for the night to showcase the idea, with a ticket price of £695 - so it was a prize well worth winning!

The draw was made later that evening and a very happy young lady, Claire Tindell, was informed of her win.  Claire was invited to return to the shop in the coming week to decide upon the style of her 'C' and a few days later was the proud owner of a diamond set pendant.

Christopher presents Claire with her individually designed

Initial 'C' diamond set pendant ........... Happy Christmas Claire !
